HARD WHITE is a solo performance rooted in a research-based exploration of impropriety and what is socially considered as inappropriate behavior across various contexts. The stage character constructs narrative landscapes that interconnect through the shared complexity of human nature, transcending individual heritage.
The piece delves into our secret, often unspoken thoughts by confronting discomfort head-on, while also making room for laughter. Among the socio-political and body-political themes it touches on are the representation of female bodies in the pop and hip-hop industry, feminist discourse, fetishism and body modification.
The audience is taken on a journey and invited to reflect on their own references, cultivating awareness of their personal associations in response to visual, auditory, and other sensory stimuli. Viewers are encouraged to respond and engage, as the performance opens a space for introspection on individual ethics and prejudices.
Hard White is a question, a dialog and most of all an inappropriate ride to the politics of self-expression.
